Closet Edit | What To Take Out & What To Keep

Jan 14, 2024
Closet Edit

It's the beginning of the year, and the enthusiasm for organizing and decluttering is in full swing as everyone aims to kick off the new year on the right foot. This month has proven to be my busiest yet, as I dive into closet edits, helping clients who are eager to refresh their wardrobes.

As I navigate through others' closets (and my own—😉), I thought I'd take a moment to share what I've been editing lately.

DENIM

First on the list: Denim. Now, before we jump into the ever-popular debate on skinny jeans, let me clarify that my primary goal is to help women look and feel their best. If skinny jeans achieve that for you, I'm all in. However, I advise my clients and friends to hold off on buying more for now. If you're attached to them, that's perfectly fine—keep them. But consider this a perfect opportunity to play with and explore new silhouettes. I recommend incorporating a straight leg ankle, wide leg, and ecru pair into your denim rotation.

SWEATERS

Next on the list: Sweaters. I've noticed an abundance of long, open cardigans in closets. While this style is good, similar to the skinny jeans, I recommend keeping one or two and experimenting with some fresh sweater styles. Personally, I'm currently loving the shorter, boxy styles. Wear them buttoned up and front-tucked into your denim for a chic look.

BOOTS

And finally, let's talk about boots—a rather hot topic. The question of which boots to pair with different denim styles often comes up. My advice? Don't stress too much about rules. Wear what makes you feel good. When sporting cropped jeans with boots, ensure there's no exposed skin in between. Opt for a boot that is high enough to stay under the jean comfortably. Additionally, say goodbye to the almond toe boot with a heel—it's a bit dated. Instead, go for a pointy toe or square toe for a more contemporary vibe.
